Engaging Story!
The overall story is very engaging for this age group. It is paced well and the characters are consistent — Joe very much reminds me of a friend’s son and I could actually picture him and hear his voice while I read. —Jen T., mom of teenage boys
Looking for an Adventure Story? Here it is!
A captivating read, spent a few nights reading past midnight as the twists and turns in the plot kept me wanting to read more. The character development, subtly accomplished via conversations and actions, was very well done. One feels a personal connection with the two main players, Joe and Kenny. Also excellent was the clever interweaving of lessons of integrity, honesty, fairness and the “non-preachy” examples of Christian prayer. This is a great adventure story for boys of scouting age and above, will stir their imagination for sure. It would be a perfect chapter book for family evening reading. Plus, the masterful illustrations help all the more to bring “the canoeing trip” to life. I reside in Michigan, am an avid camper, backpacker, and canoeist. This book hit my sweet spot for those adventurous spirits in me. A final thought: I hope there is a sequel! —John
Not Just for Boys
The adventures in this book really draw you in to the boy’s survival ideas. I especially liked the code of honor they kept at the Main Post! —Hannah, age 13
